The moniker of "hidden gem" came from the town of Pinawa been actually being labeled by the Canadian Federal Government as a restricted area due to is Atomic Energy of Canada research in the 1960's. Today that designation is gone and the research long closed down. The restriction kept the area mostly undeveloped and explains why it now is a pinnacle in Manitoba's Whiteshell Region. While Wilderness Edge may be tucked away in the tranquility of Whiteshell Provincial Park, it's just an hour's drive from Winnipeg, making it easily accessible for attendees.
